Description

Variable magnification first focal plane (FFP) rifle scope designed for rapid engagement of targets at varying, unknown ranges. Superb entry level scope for precision rifle, tactical rifle and three gun competition with the MRAD tactical turrets and FFP MRAD reticle (the vast majority of top level precision shooters use Mil/Mil scopes), with the option of MOA if that is your pleasure. Magnification range allows engagement of close and long range targets. Just as capable in the field, whether hunting big game or long range varminting.  Great light transmission makes it popular with night vision hunters using night vision rear adapters.

Falcon scopes have been sold around the world for many years and there are many reviews across their product range. Their target audience is riflemen looking for great performance without having to pay premium prices. The reviews support how successful Falcon have been in hitting their target.

Optical Features

  • Fully multi-coated Japanese glass delivers excellent clarity and sharpness. The anti-reflective coatings work with the high quality glass to deliver maximum brightness.
  • First Focal Plane Reticle remains in proportion to the target, removing the need to set the magnification to a specific value to make the reticle accurate for hold over or ranging.
  • The MRAD and MOA reticles allow accurate holdover and ranging at all magnifications - a key feature of the FFP reticle position.
  • MRAD reticles provide 10 MRAD of elevation holdover below zero and 5 above, with 5 MRAD left and right for windage.
  • MOAv reticle provides 36 MOA of elevation holdover below zero and 16 above, with 36 MOA left and right for windage.
  • Hash marks on the B28 reticle (compared to Mildots) allow precise aiming when using the reticle to hold over.  See the diagram in the pictures for details.
  • Mildots on the EMD2 reticle (compared to hash marks) allow quick  and easy acquisition of the aiming point when using the reticle to hold over, even at lower magnifications. Link to EMD2 reticle details on the manufacturers website.
  • MOAv reticle has hash marks for precise aiming when using the reticle to hold over. Link to MOAv reticle details on the manufacturers website. Reticle shows the reticle as it would display in the SFP scope - the FFP scope will show the same view at 10x.
  • Glass-etched reticle means crisp cross hairs, labels every second MRAD on the MRAD reticles (below the cross hairs) and at every 8 MOA on the MOAv reticles (on all four reticle axes).
  • Side parallax turret is easily accessible from the shooting position for parallax adjustment.

Construction Features

  • 30mm diameter main tube provides significant internal elevation and windage adjustment and improved rigidity compared to 1 inch tubes. Wide range of quality scope mounts available (not included).
  • One-piece construction of main tube, objective and turret saddle ensures internal alignment for improved accuracy and visual performance, as well as strength and sealing.
  • Constructed from aluminium for strength and rigidity with light weight.
  • Waterproof construction and nitrogen gas purging prevents internal fogging.
  • Rugged construction withstands recoil to 338 Lapua Magnum levels. Reviewers attest to Falcon Optics ability to maintain reliability and repeatability through hard knocks.
  • Durable anodised finish provides a low-glare matte surface, preventing reflections which could distract the shooter or alert quarry.
  • Tactical turrets provide audible and tactile click feedback and visual confirmation of elevation and windage adjustment.
  • Turrets have two rows of markings, eliminating the need for mental calculations on the second rotation of the turret when dialing to extremely long ranges.

Internal Mechanism Design Features

  • Low-friction, wear-resistant, precision-machined turret adjusters allow resetting of elevation and windage zero quickly, easily and accurately.
  • Steel and brass turret clicker/detent mechanism.
  • Coil spring erector tube system.

Useability Features

  • Fast focus eyepiece allows quick and easy reticle focusing.
  • Tactical turrets allow dialling in elevation and windage adjustments without having to remove turret caps.
  • Large and wide turrets with a knurled, serrated top edge ensure a good grip, useful in cold conditions and when wearing gloves.
  • Turret turn direction to raise or lower the point of impact, or to adjust windage left or right, is marked on the scope saddle as well as on the top of the turret, making it easier to be sure that adjustment is being dialled in the correct direction with minimum disruption to shooting position.
  • Magnification markings are on the edge of the ring, making it much easier to see the magnification setting from the shooting position.
  • Both elevation and windage turrets have markings showing the number of turns, reducing confusion when adjustments of more than one full turn of the turret have been made.
  • 10 MRAD per turret revolution allows, for the M852 168 grain .308 US military round with a 200m zero, ranges over 800m to be dialled on the first revolution of the turret. Other examples of ranges within 10 MRAD:
    •  Hornady 140gr A-Max Match 6.5 Creedmore - over 1000m
    •  Black Hills 300gr Sierra Match King HPBT 338 Lapua Magnum - over 1100m
  • 25 MOA per turret revolution allows, for the M852 168 grain .308 US military round with a 200m zero, ranges up to 700m to be dialled on the first revolution of the turret. Other examples of ranges within 25 MOA:
    •  Hornady 140gr A-Max Match 6.5 Creedmore - over 850m
    •  Black Hills 300gr Sierra Match King HPBT 338 Lapua Magnum - up to 950m
  • Both the reticle and the turrets are in the same unit. FFP MRAD and MOA turret and reticle make sighting in and in the field sight adjustment simple - measure the change using the reticle and then dial it on the turrets, regardless of the magnification. No need for mental maths (or reaching for the calculator) to convert MOA to MRAD or vice versa.
  • Metric MRAD system simplifies the mental model required for adjustment. One MRAD is 10cm at 100m. Each click is 0.1 MRAD, which is 1cm at 100m.
  • Ranging is simplified using the MRAD divisions on the reticle against a known/ estimated size of the target, again reducing the mental math required compared to an MOA reticle.
